Rocky Mountain Adventure Engagement Session - Central Alberta Engagement Photographer

Writer: Bonny-Lynn MarchmentBonny-Lynn Marchment

Sarah and Sam were the winners of our free engagement session giveaway. Sarah and Sam have been together since college, both creatives at heart, and got engaged on Sulphur Mountain. So, a mountain backdrop seemed perfect for their engagement session. After readjusting our dates a couple of times, we finally settled on this past weekend, and we lucked out with the weather. Living in Alberta, winter sessions can be precarious and uncertain, with weather fluctuations making it difficult to ensure the safety and comfort of everyone involved. Just last week we had a deep freeze settle in, with wind chill values down to -40 Celsius, and the mountains received a heavy snowfall midweek. Coming up on the weekend, however, the forecast was looking great, with temperatures just below freezing, and the potential for some light snowfall. So I packed up my gear on Sunday morning, and headed for the mountains, a long drive, but one that's always worth the view. We met up, the weather was beautiful, and we headed out on our selected trail. Normally this trail would be rated as quite easy, just a walk along the shoreline. This day, however, we found that the trail had remained untouched since the heavy (15-20cm's) snowfall days before. We forged ahead, breaking trail (thank you Sam, for taking the lead and doing most of the work!), and had the whole place to ourselves. About halfway through the session, the weather decided to take a turn, in true Alberta fashion, starting with a light snowfall, and peaking at essentially whiteout conditions for a period of time. And yet, from the photos, you would never know that it was anything besides peaceful and serene.

-- Let me count the stars in your eyes, the lines in your face, the freckles on your nose. I'll count your fingers and toes. Your scars and bruises, and even your tears. I'll count the days we're together, the days that we're apart. The moments we share with each other. The times you hold my hand today, the I love you's and I miss you's. I'll count the hellos, but never the goodbyes. Instead I'll count every single goodnight. These are the numbers I want to know. Not the number of notes in your wallet or cars on this street. Not the people you meet. Not the ones who came before me. Instead, let me count on you and I. On our future as us. On our todays and our tomorrows. I'll count your dreams and live them with you. Until we lose count, and start over again. --
